Hi - I am ready to buy a 94 crownline 210 ccr with a 5.7 Merc I/O. It's mint inside and out. Any opinions? Is Crownline cosidered a good boat manufacturer?

I have a 2000 Crownline 205BR and love it. Crownline is a very respectable builder with a very loyal coustomer service department. Crownlines are a very well built boat and I believe you will enjoy that model. Please visit the website and look around on the forum/Crownline owners. crownline.com dkidd

Referrals only please. Thanks

boatgrunt, I've had good experiences with both of my Crownlines. Make sure you check the stringers and flooring for soft spots as Crownline didn't started using XL rated plywood until 1998. Also the 210CCR is pretty heavy and not a speed demon, it would be beneficial if it had trim tabs.

I love my 225 BR. Although I wish it was a ccr. But it has the 454 mag with captains call so I couldn't pass it up for the price.

I have had a 1993 Crownline 186BR since it was new. The boat is well made and I have really been pleased with it. Would have replaced it when it was about 10 years old, but could not find anything that I and my family liked as well......

I have a 2000 Crownline with the 5.0 GL Volvo Penta SX and 170 hours.
How many hours should I expect from this boat? How long will it last?

With good care and maintenance, your boat and engine should last a long time. With only 170 hours on the engine, it's barely broken in.

With ROUTINE maintenance it's not unusual for an I/O to easily go several thousand hours before a major overhaul. If you haven't maintained it and you ignore it until you hear the grinding gears or see the water from the leaking manifolds, etc, then it could already be near the end of it's lifetime.

I have a 2001 180BR with Mercruiser 4.3l engine(bought new in 2001 )...the only issue I have ever had with the boat was with the crappy Sony stereo...other than that,I have had absolutely ZERO problems with Crownlines quality...:>)

Re: Opinions On Crownline

I have a 2006, Crownline 260 LS- Love my boat, bought it brand new over a very competitive Regal at the end of the season Boat show in Atlanta. Due to Crownline issues and going belly up, I only got 2 years out of my 5 year warranty and they have subsequently not covered anything since. Its a shame because I feel they had a superior product, but have treated those of us in that 3 year bubble unfairly. Stick to your word and do the right thing, $60,000 is a big investment for some of us- if you ask me right now, I hate my Atlanta dealer and I hate the "NEW" Crownline Company.

Re: Opinions On Crownline

Lanier,

A 2006 model bought new at the end of 2010? The engine/outdrive warranty should still be honored by Mercruiser/Volvo. The only portion of the 5 yr warranty that would have been "lost" is on the hull....and I will have to say I know of no one that has had hull issues, maybe gelcoat (probably most of those were self induced) but not hull structurally.

The whole boating industry has been decimated over the past few years, with many manufacturers disappearing. Crownline was bought out by a totally different owner and thus the 5 yr warranty was offered from the past owner and not the new owner. The name is the same but that is it. I suspect they are just trying to stay afloat at this point as the government is not going to bail out the boating industry. Look at the auto industry, What is the value of the GM stock which was purchased several years ago?.....zero....and GM still exists in name anyway. The old GM share holders only have a piece of worthless paper, at least you still have a boat.

My suggestion would be to find a dealer or shop that you trust and enjoy your time out on the water in your boat.

Re: Opinions On Crownline

I have a DB 238 and there are soft spots developing on the deck with a good amount of cracking. I'd say it's about as good as any other mass production boat, but nothing exceptional. I've seen several shortcuts that were taken in the construction, but again, nothing you probably don't see in other mid-level boats. Not something the manufacturer will repair and warranty. Would not buy another, but like the hull design quite a bit so i will keep it.

I've not owned a Cobalt but I am very impressed the the quality of those that i've been aboard.

....and how old is your 238DB???? If the problem is the XL plywood, it's lifetime warranted against rot from the manufacturer of the plywood.

Really depends on the year...

Crownline started using XL plywood in 1998. Thus anything since is warranted against rot from the manufacturer of the plywood. Any model older than 1998 is more prone to develop problems from the plywood deteriorating.

Re: Opinions On Crownline

I like them but not the early 90's models. In the early/mid 2000's they are more sporty than luxurious as compared to their direct competition. They compared similarly to my sig boat but were lacking in a couple of areas. I'd have no problems with a mid to late 2000's model.
