I have a 18hp Kohler on a Gravely that gets pretty rugged use in the mowing season. No troubles, with exception of muffler, in 8 years.

Jinx

hers a tidbit for ya.a good friend of mine and his dad run a lawn care service.theyve been using john deer for a long time.over the years theyv used mowers with kohler engins as well as the kawasaki sorry i cant spell in japanese no offense. if you are mowing your own yard and take very good care of you equipment the kohler should be fine but the kawa at least according to friend and his dad is actually more reliable and easier to maintain.cuts taller grass and wetter grass with less bog down.and parts are cheaper as well.in my openion go with the kawa.

Kohler, Kohler, Kohler....

I have friends who work there and they need jobs more than the folks in Japan and China...

Buy American, whenever possible.

I have Kholer's on two zero turn Scag mowers. both have over 1500 hours on them and I've yet to experience anything major. Most any engine is as good as it's taken care of. Just my two cents worth. If either of these guys were to fling a rod out the side today, I'd probably replace them with a Honda engine.

I recently had the opportunity to test out a new Kohler 20 and a Kawasaki 25 to develop tachometers for Simplicity tractor. Both brand spanking new, out of the box. The Kohler was the air cooled version and the Kawasaki was liquid cooled. Both are awesome engines and I would be happy to own either.

In talking with the guys at Simplicity, they prefer the Kohler and expect to sell more of them as the Kawi's price tag is too high. Have to agree with Pointer, the jobs are needed much more here than there.
