I think you're putting way too much emphasis on a vehicle that you will use about 1% of the time for the purpose of towing your boat. A truck with an inline 6 would probably handle that and give you gas mileage that won't break the bank the other 99% of the time.

I'm just sayin'

I've been accused of being an over analyzer so you've got me there (drives my wife nuts), but the original reason for posting is that I wondered if anybody would even buy a 2500 with the small motor. I plan to drive it 1 year so resale is important, if I planned to drive it to the ground I wouldn't care. But I'd argue it's used for it's intended purpose most of the time since 3 kids and car seats don't fit in anything without 3rd row shy of a Tahoe or Expedition because they are too narrow (learned that the hard way with an Exploder). Jeeps,Tahoes, Expeditions, Explorers,Trailblazers and Suburbans all get roughly the same gas mileage, all being better than the inline 6 I used to have (that was a great truck). I'd put a smiley face here if I could, hope it didn't sound cranky because it wasn't meant to, just explaining.

Not at all. Just having a friendly discussion between folks who all have the same addiction problem...lol. BTW, check out a Trailblazer EXT with an I6.

Trailblazer / Envoy / Hummer H3 with the I5 or I6 all get horrible fuel mileage ratings, and are narrower overall, and will not tow as much as a full size SUV. My wife homeschools our kids, and as a result frequently has several kids at a time going from one place to another. Even our Chrysler Town and Country LXi had a problem when it came to seating three kids in the same row. The Expedition handles it with ease, and all the kids have elbow room. I think he is on the right track with the full size, and will be much happier overall. As a side note, the Trailblazers / Envoys that we have over here (what few there are) have a MUCH higher maintenance frequency rate than any of our full size SUVs, even though they log fewer miles on average. The Expeditions are in the shop less than Suburbans or Tahoes, and the Excursions with the v-10 are in the shop the most. FWIW.

I have an Expedition now and if the Suburban deal goes through I will miss the Ford. They're nice trucks. Mine actually has the 4.6 and despite what people say about it being underpowered I haven't had any problems, it seems to compare equally to the 2000 I had with the 5.4. I'm a pretty fiercely loyal Ford guy so this would be a weird change.
I may have missed it, but Im having the worst day ever so, if you have the expedition now, and it is admitted by all to be a great tow vehicle, why are you getting the burb?

Consider it a hobby and/or addiction. I've had it 2 years which is 1 too many, and I'm due for a color change anyway. I have a chance at a cheap suburban and a chance to make a decent dime on my Expy which is a good combo in my book.
