Opinions please

Hi everyone. I am new to this board,and to boating (motor). I have a 16' aluminum v bottom with a 60 hp,and a 1 axle bunk style Karavan trailer. My question is; would you recomend side bunks (I guess they are called). I have not yet had the boat in the water,and am wondering if having bunks or guides on the side would be worth while. It seems like they would help guide the boat on and off the trailer. Someone said they were especially good if it is windy.Any opinions would be appreciated.

Coupla opinions !!!

I consider 'side bunks' as a board-like structure above the waterline, parallel to the main bunks. I have these on my 14' StumpKnocker, and yes, they are extremely helpful in loading on windy days or when I am fishing alone.

For my 20' Wellcraft I have actual guide poles with running lights mounted in their tops. These are doubly helpful as stated above AND they are visible at night and especially when backing the empty trailer.

Go for it !! You will be pleased with which ever setup suits your needs.

very good idea- helps alot on side winds or currents.

I have guide polls (they spin) for my 16 foot trihull, and it helps a lot with loading, but if it's too windy they're not good enough, and side bunks might work better.

That said, usually the guide posts are fine, and not having a bunk on the side makes washing the boat a lot easier
