Optical eye

Theres a 115 HP Johnson Ocean Runner for sale on Ebay. But it needs some work. The guy said it runs but it cuts out at higher RPM. He said that a mechanic looked at it and said it needed an Optical Eye. Whats an Optical Eye. It has 140,140,130 and 145 compression on the cylinders. Would the Optical Eye make it cut out. Tell me what you think, sure would appreciate it.

Th optical eye a.k.a. the optical ignition sensor controls firing of the cyls at the correct time. If it is bad it can give the prob the mtr has. It could also be a power pack.

Boobie, Could it alos be the stator? Do Johnny's have high speed stator windings?

Chris1956, No, It's not a Merc. But yes, it could be the stator but I also agree with archcycle.
