optimax 1999 to 2000 150 to 200hp

I kind of got ignored when I ask a simple question in the out board sect. What is up with the optimax engines 1999 to 2000 any major problems?

If you would like the list I would be glad to give it to you. I like OPTI's When they run you can't beat them. BUT there are always problems. If you understand this and know someone who services them and knows this engine You are ok. We service some guys opti's everytime they fish there boat.

Thats hard to believe that they get srviced every time they go fishing. thats like prepping a helocpter before take off. Ive got a 2000 250 merc efi and have not had a lick of problems (knock on wood)yet. Im just considering purching a used boat and there are a lot of them out there with the 99 to 2000 optis on them. After paying the hefty price for a newer fishing boat I dont think I want the extra added cost of continual maintainace.

You need to baby sit them if you want them to run. Befor fishing tournament here they line up opti's at the shop. One after another. DFI's require alot more service if you want them to run. Look at the price of the spark plugs for opti's. There is a new spark plug change to iridium NGK's.

I was suspicious when Merc offered such an extended warranty and delayed offering them in their offshore line-up!

I own a 1999 200hp opti with over 900 hours,,i run it at least 3 times a week,,i fish tournaments all over texas,,,its one of the best motors i know of,,,,use the right oil,gas and put some sea foam in now and then,,,it will run great...had 75 hours on it when i bought it,,,,still has 95% comp. on all cylinders..with less than 2% variance..changed out tps once..shift switch...few belts...plugs once a year
