I have a 2004 opti 90 that has been drowned ,I purchased this engine in parts and have rebuilt it .I am having problems starting it due I think to low air pressure .The valve plate in the compressor has reeds on each side the exhaust side are open about 50 thou I think this is due to water being forced through before the engine stalled . has anyone seen inside one ? are the reed supposed to be closed or open? Any assistance would be appreciated

Re: optimax 90 compressor problem

Welcome to iboats.

I haven't even seen a 90 yet. Pretty much the same as the 115s which I have seen. The reeds should be closed at rest. There might be a few thousandths gap, but I'd think more than .004 would be a problem.

Are you saying that motor was running when it went under? You probably have bent rods if so. Best of luck.

check air and fuel pressure at the rails. There should be ten pound difference. i think 80 fuel and 90 air.

Hi Graeme, i was looking to buy that motor myself, but was a little scared about the electronics, and also the pic I seen of the crank, looked worse then it turned out to be, guess i am a chicken.

Graeme if you get that motor going ok ..you got a steal, if i knew what i know now after doing a lot of research, i would have bought it.

best of luck and hope you get it going like new and have many years of pleasure with it.
Tony

Reel precision, The fuel pressure is ten pounds higher than the air pressure otherwise the injected fuel won't be able to get into the higher pressure air. So the fuel is 90 the air would be 80.

Re: optimax 90 compressor problem

Waoo, I can´t believe a lot of problems for only 90HP...
I prefer to use old engines just carbirated like 2.5L year 1990...
If I were you, I sold new model and try to rebuild the older carburated engines.

Good look..

PD: In my country it´s very difficult and expensive to repair high technology engines like new models 2000 year and newer...We in Venezuela prefer to use old carburated engines...cheaper and reliable
