Optimax Digital to Analog

I have a 2001 Optimax 150 hp engine in my Bayliner Trophy. I purchased the boat used and it had a Smartach and an analog speedometer (that's never worked). I later installed a fishfinder that provides speed info so I don't need the speedometer. However, I had to replace my digital Smartach when it became unreadable, and now the second one is fading out. Also, I hate having to scroll through these gadgets while traveling at breakneck speed to determine engine water psi, temp, etc. What do I need (besides the analog gauges) in order to convert from digital to analog? Secondly, will I still be able to use my DDT to perform engine analysis? Additional note: 2001 Optimax apparently doesn't support the Smartcraft pigtailing of gauges the way 2002 and later Opti's do.

Re: Optimax Digital to Analog

No replies so far, so I'll respond myself. Mercury Marine sells a "Rigging Kit" specifically to convert a digital Optimax to analog so you don't have to rely on those hateful digital gauges that cost a fortune, require you to scroll through multiple screens to find what you're looking for, and fade and become unreadable after a few years. They have different model number kits for different years and they sell in the forty dollar price range (pretty cheap for boating gear). I have one on order and expect that it will probably be easy enough to disable when I need to use my DDT for engine analysis work.
