Optimax Smartcraft gauge issue

I am having difficulty getting my tach and speedo smart craft gauges to work. I have main harnes comming from engine with terminator side of harness to engine. I have harnes to junction box with terminator on junction box adjacent to main engine harness. I have the two gauges on the to open ports of junction box. I have ground and power to the gauges. The gauges worked fine before install. The gauges getting power and ground would lead me to believe that the gauges are bad, but dont think anything could have killed both gauges since last used a short time ago. If they are getting power and ground and not lighting up do they have to be broken gauges? Or am I missing part of the equation to make them work? Ex: what does the red wire to them do? Thanks for any advice.

The gauges worked fine before install.

Did you switch out to new digital gauges or trying to use the original analog gauges?

If any, What design (part number?) smart craft gauge did you buy/test/install new?

Using gauges that were paired with engine since new. They are the pre VDO gauges with the troll speed buttons on them. 2002 opti. I tested the gauges before I ran the main harness through the hull and they worked . After pulling cable through I pulled the pins out of the connector that goes to the engine. So I have put the female pins from harness onto the male pins on the engine harness. matching up colors on wires.
