Re: options on fuel tank

Thanks for the pics Max. They will get better just like the boat. That is a very nice rig and I am like Jas, curious about the electric motor. You and the boat will make a fine addition to the Starmada.:D

We calmed the angry mob down so now you can sleep at night.
For now.

Hey Max, set up a an account on photobucket.com for hosting your pictures. Trying to host pics on iboats is a pain and too restrictive. You can even crop and resize them right on photobucket. That's what most of us are doing.

Max, great find! The belly tank is a great idea, it will allow you to mount the tank closer to the center of gravity. In "general" the CG should be at about 2/3 the length of the boat (form transom to bow). Because the weight of the fuel tank is ever changing, having it near the CG will have the least effect on how the boat sits in the water and performs whether it is full or empty.

Also, they way I usually mount these is to place a 1/4" thick strips of rubber underneath and using a "make a clamp kit" available from most industrial supply websites. I cut the clamp straps to length, fasten the two ends to the stringers and pass them over the top of the tank (using the rubber again between the clamp and the tank) and tighten it down. Works like a pipe clamp!

Just an idea, hope it helps.

Good luck!

I installed an 18 gal tank in my 18.5 starcraft below deck. Off the shelf from Moeller. #FT1826. 21"X5.38". Fits perfect up forward, shifts the weight perfect. It is poly of some kind. Light weight filler and vent up front. If you want pics mail me at EDIT.

If GRZZZZ replies to my email with the pics, I will post them on here. This is the info he has sent me so far.

"I bought the tank from iboats. I found it to be the cheapest. Moeller does not sell direct, only through distributors. The mod # FT1826. It fits nicely forward. The filler and vent are in the front of the tank. outlets come out just under the bow. I ran the filler up front and it comes out a bit in front of the windshield, right side. Vent I put just below it about 6" on the side under the deck. It takes about a month to get one. They are not on the shelf, so plan ahead. If i remember it was somewhere around $275. But well worth it. It gave me lots more space above deck. Come with sending unit installed. My pics are at home. I'll see what I can find and send them."
