Hiya gang,

I'm looking to run a few small LED's mounted on the inside of my gunwhale up near the rub strip. The problem I have is I need to run wiring from the carpet part of my deck up to where the LED's will be mounted (silver rub strip at very top).

I could obviously use standard small wire loom But I'm looking for a alternative(read: cleaner look). Ideally what I'm looking for is something like the rubber strips that some offices use when they have to run printer cables and such across the floor, but a really small version and something that (in a perfect world) would be self adhesive. Any ideas?

This stuff is pretty small. I bought mine at the local hardware to hide some wire in my boat's head. Its paintable so you could paint it the same color as the inside of the hull. It is about 1/2" X 1/2" and has pressure tape already on it. It also has neat looking elbows and tees if you need to make turns or tee off to something else.

You know come to think of it I've used that stuff run the satelite speakers for my surround sound system. Why the heck didn't I think of that!

Another thought would be to use simple 1/2" PVC pipe. You could cut a section of the pipes length and install/secure it over the seam of the carpeting at the gunnel. Vinyl paint could be used to match the carpet color.

The gunnel is actually an aluminum extrusion that is hollow. You could run the wires from the back of the boat, into a hole in the gunnel and then use a fish tape to pull it where you need it. Takes a little creativity but you would have a neat installation when done. Use rubber grommets where the wire enters and exits and gunnel.

I agree with silvertip. If you don't own a fish tape a piece of 12-14 ga insulated copper wire will help you chase that hollow space. I always keep about a three to four foot piece of that around just for chasing wires.

If you want something flexible try "tech-flex" or techflex.. I forget. Its a braided setup that looks very nice.

I've got some mechanic wire lying around to use as a fish. I like the idea of hiding the wire in the gunnel. I think I'll give that a shot. I need to put 2, maybe three lights up there so It may be a little tricky.
