Sitting here watching the game . and once again, wondering why the Cleveland Browns, wear orange helmets ???

Because the Browns were named after a guy, not a color?
Plus a brown helmet on their head would look like a turd!

My understanding is the Browns used to wear white helmets. At some point the NFL used white balls for night games and it was forbidden for teams to wear white helmets during those games so the Browns opted for orange helmets instead. Eventually those helmets stuck, from what I've read it was in the early 50's so it could be fiction for all I know.

Another point is that team is said to be named after their first coach, Paul Brown. When a contest to name the team yielded a name that couldn't be used (threatened law suit from another pro team in a different league).

Again, I will state that this could all be fiction as it happened well before I was born.
