Ordered a lower unit for my mercruiser, stud is broken

I ordered a lower for my MC-1 outdrive and when i received it in the back stud was laying in the box, sheared off below the housing.

The only two options i can think of is have it taken to a shop and drilled, and backed out (i definitely don't trust myself to do it. Is it a possibility that a machine shop would damage the housing (break it off)? Or is there enough metal here that it wouldn't be much of an issue for them to back it out?

2nd option is run it without that back stud. Is this an option? I'd say NO but there are two studs in front if it pretty close and I'm just not sure.

Anyone else had this issue?

I contacted the seller through ebay. waiting on a reply. If i can just get it drilled out i will. i got a great deal and it was just serviced. Going to ask for partial refund once i see if the machine shop feels comfortable drilling it.

If they say no go, then i'm going to return it.

That's the front stud. A machine shop should be able to remove it and put a new one in without too much problem.

I do believe it is held in with Loctite. And I think it's red Loctite. So a little heat may be necessary.

Thanks I Forgot Front Of The Boat Is Front Of The Drive. I May Test Fit On The Upper To Ensure No Other Issues, Then Get It Removed. I Know Rates Vary, But What's A Price Range On Removing It?

IF IT COMES OUT EASY, MAY BE A 15 MINUTE JOB. IF IT DECIDES TO PLAY HARD, COULD TAKE A COUPLE OF HOURS...

Good idea to test it before spending any effort on it. I'd say it's worth the effort if appearance means anything. That case and the parts on it look good.
