Ordering upper shift cable

I have a 77 Starcraft Islander 153CI. inline 4. Motor serial# 4511052 Drive is MC1 serial# 2970347. Shifter in boat is forward/reverse only, no trim switches. How do I tell what cable to order from Iboats. Do I measure length of existing cable? Is there a part# on the old cable I match up? This is my first time ordering a cable and I want to get it right. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes you need to measure the length of the cable and also want to get the correct ends for it. The engine ends are the same I believe the helm ends may differ. Look at yours and the one I have a picture of... which I believe should be the style you need:

If it's an original Merc cable, then the length will be stamped in the cable outer sheath near the engine end. Be careful though, Merc changed the way they measure and mark cables at some stage, and early cable lengths aren't the same as later cable lengths... Confused? I am..
