Re: ore locks

First welcome to iboats!!

Second no question is dumb!

Third I think you mean Oar Locks :D

Very easy to install ..... tape measure, drill, common sense and patience. Depending on the design of the boat and boat rail you may have to fabricate a plate to bear the load..... all sold here! http://www.iboats.com/Boat_Parts_Accessories/dm/keywords.oar locks

Re: ore locks

Ditto on the backing plate.
Positioning in relation to where you are sitting is important. The length of the oars will also come into play here. You want to be comfortable when rowing.

well looking at a 14' starcraft utility and i don't think it has ore locks on it if i'm to get the boat i would want to put some on just in case i need to row to shore , and run out of juice with my troller and it did happen 1 time that because i didn't bring them. by the way where do you get a backing plate if you need one ,in the same site?

Re: ore locks

What model Starcraft? I have two Starcraft 14' boats, both came with oar lock mounts. All I needed was a good set of oars.
Your oars will be in the 6.5 to 7.5" range on most boats that size.
I prefer the old school style pin and horn style pivot, and good old fashioned wood oars, but that's what I got used to years ago. I have both a gas and electric motor for mine, but often leave them home and just use the oars in most small ponds. It's good exercise and can be very relaxing.
I have 6.5' plain wood oars, I sand and re coat them each year with fresh urethane, and they've lasted over 15 years so far. I use them on both my 14 and 12' boats. Both have about a 53" beam width.

Re: ore locks

Oars are great to have on any small boat, not only as emergency propulsion, but for silent trolling, exercise, and for exploring shallow water.

My 22 foot power dory has oarlocks and a set of 10 foot oars, and it weighs 2700 pounds loaded.
