I am going to be working on a 1958 Alumacraft Deep C, after looking online the boat was offered in a few colors and a satin finish. The boat is in it's original satin finish, except the finish is 57 years old. Should it be buffed or left as is?

Its bare, oxidized aluminum. If you like that look, I'd leave it, but it really isnt a finish, its just a 57yr old tin boat.

FYI we love pix. Yours can possibly look any worse then several Ive dragged home, even if it has a tree growing in it.....

I like the oxidized look, but my Admiral doesnt like that it'll often leave gray/black streaks/smudges on her clothes if she rubs against it.

You could buff or polish it, but then you'll need to protect that 'new' buffed surface or it'll age back to an oxidized aluminum like it is now. Thats why I like the bare oxidized aluminum look. Low maintenance ;)

There are several protectants forum members use

SharkHide

Sonus

Or buffing w several different polishing pads/bonnets and compounds to a high polish and keeping it cleaned and waxed

Do what you want. It won't affect the value one way or the other. It's totally up to you and what your prefer. If you decide to paint her, there are some things you need to know and understand about painting aluminum.

I was thinking of buffing the sides and leaving anything on the top, no need to be blinded. I bought the boat from a guy that posted here a few times, I found the post with pics and added a post that I bought the boat. Not sure why but after I posted a mod locked the topic.

If it had been more then 90days, the topic is considered inactive and best left inactive unless you are the original poster.

If you havent started a topic about the DeepC, please do, and by all means link back to the topic by whoever you bought it from.
