original omc ignition coils from 1950s

hello--ive been told that almost all of the original equipment ignition coils on the omc outboards in the 50's and mabeb4 and after(?) fail due to age or something like that.. but the replacement coils(mfgr?) donot? anyone help clear this up for me..and do most of the models in those years use the same coils? thks in advance for the help..

Pretty darn close to the same for a number of years in the 50's..heat and age cracks the epoxy skin. No big deal. Early TD's used a different coil, but most after that standard. All over the internet for $20, and the new ones will probably still work when you are pushing up daisy's..even if you are 20 years old..and live to a hundred..:D
