Hi everyone, I have a 1978 Chris Craft Catalina Express Hardtop. I have a leak in one of the bow cabin windows which I am going to fix, then I wanted to redo the wood trim on the inside of the cabin that was damaged by the water coming in. Would anyone know what the original stain used was?? So I don't have to redo everything to match. Thanks!!

If you've got to take the wood off for the repair, why not take it down the local woodwork shop and get the stain matched? Or get the guy to restain it for you for a drink or two?

Popeye:
Here in the states you can take the strip to Lowes Home Improvement, or Home Depot and they can match the color with the machine that they have. All they need is an area large as a quarter.
Sand down the piece and start applying coats, let each dry well, take in the boat and compare the color till you get the color you want. Its that simple. Hope this helps!!

HI PF, I don't know what type of wood was used, but in many cases it would most likely be teak... if so then it usually is just varnished, no stain needed.. If it is mahongany, then they probably used a filler type stain on it..I have had good luck matching stain by buying 3or4 different colors and then mixing them to match.. trial and error but it works......good luck
