Re: OTASCO Engine

The Flying O was a private label built by Eska. They appeared in 68 and 69
5 hp Eska procedures should serve you well.
Motors used a air cooled Tecumserh powerhead with a water cooled leg.
68 used an AV520 power head and 69 used AV 600.
Many private labels were supplied by Eska.
There is pretty strong Eska support here in other outboards.

Re: OTASCO Engine

1908-B comes out as a 1974 AV-600 5 hp built by eska, the powerhead is tecumseh AV-600 and they are pretty easy to work on. before you get too involved into the engine make sure you do a spark and compression test, if you have both then your in luck and in the right place for people to help you on your way of getting it running again.

Re: OTASCO Engine

Well good news, my son and I got it running, a little ruff but still runs. He set the points at 18 degrees and it seems to run ok, we think the carb. needs rebuilding but other then that seems ok. I do have a question how do we know if the water pump is working? I believe it is air cooled but also has a water pump. Thanks again for all your input and info. Fills good to get something like this running again, we found it at a dump, someone just tossed it out.

Re: OTASCO Engine

there should be some exhaust relief holes in the leg and you should get a spray or mist.
It would be interersting to see if your outboard uses a Eska leg and pump and we might be able to point you in the right direction for that part.

Well could be bad news, a very small amount of water came out the relief holes and then nothing, can feel exhaust but no mist.
Thanks again for your info. it has helped

darned old rubber parts, after 40 years they tend to fall apart:)

I thought that might be the problem, can you tell me what to remove to check (replace) the rubber parts.
And down the road I'll need a prop for it, if we can get it all running again:)

Ok I will keep track of all fasteners, bolt, nut and washer, also stainless steel plate.
We are going to work on it this weekend, no big hurry, most lakes here in Texas are so low you can almost walk across them.
We will let you know what we find once we get into it, more to follow.

Re: OTASCO Engine

Well an update, impeller is shot, mrcrabs said (It would be interersting to see if your outboard uses a Eska leg and pump) not sure what that would look like, also removed carb, looks good inside.
So now we need an impeller, and a carb. rebuild kit. "the carb. is a Lauson Power Products, Grafton, Wis." Boy will be nice to get this going again.
Thanks
