So far I add that up as $50 for the toon (the rest is the trailer, optional equipment, and moorage), and $210 for the ski boat (the trailer damage doesn't count toward 'boat costs' in my eyes. :)

So far you're doing ok I think!

There is an old saying for the meaning of BOAT : Bring Out Another Thousand"!

Once you get the boat to where you want it...the costs are minimal from there.

Thank goodness there are no boat payments. Most of this stuff is just maintenance, so Maintenance cost and a payment OUCH how do some of you guys do it. Yeah the radio wasn't gonna make it another year, and I would rather do maintenance than repairs it will feel better the first time either one of them hits the water thats for sure.

The other old saying is the definition of boat. A hole in the water you throw money into. We have all been there. I just bought a boat for 1200 and put about 1500 in it before getting it in the water and finding out I've got some major motor issues to work thru. I know it's discouraging but you'll get her there and than its miller time.

one boat unit = $1000. once you accept that a boat is a hole in the water to pour money into, you can actually start to enjoy them.

They say golf is an expensive hobby (or sport) - thats' nothing compared to the insanity of boat ownership. We spend our hard earned money on oversized dingies so we can spend more money on fuel, accessories, food, and drinks to go out on the water and drop anchor all day. I wouldn't have it any other way. We're all crazy.
Ain't life grand (or 2 grand).

Re: OUCH already $1000

I don't hunt, or golf, i fish but only when and because i boat. I don't go into debt for boating though i did put some of this on the credit card which will be paid off at the end of the month. It still hurts man I wanna get on the water so bad that its driving me nuts, and i keep spending money and launch date keeps getting pushed back wasn't so bad today since it was cloudy and rainy and 58 but yesterday was sunny and 80 Friday is gonna be 78 and sunny and rainy again this weekend.

I don't mind spending money but its been a long 6 months and i am ready to see the fruits of my hard labor.

Man when it rains it pours doesn't it. I've certainly had those days when your afraid to do anything for fear of what might happen next. Hope the guy that hit you had good insurance.

Yup, welcome to boating.

A friend found out I was looking for my first boat and told me this. "See that pier over there. Go convert all your savings to silver dollars. Walk out on that pier, and start throwing the silver dollars in the water. The first few will hurt. The next ones not as much. At the point where you don't care about tossing them in anymore - go buy your boat"

Here's where I'm at with my boat this year. 460lbs of scrap steel, and the costs of cutting it off, and buying new steel, and consumables to cut/weld the new steel, and more steel for bracing to hold the bow in its proper shape while I transport and reattach, and, and and.... the list keeps going.

And I get out cheap with a $700/season parking spot for my truck in some ladys driveway, while I use the private mooring that I installed and maintain....

The 2 happiest days in a boat owners life is the day he BUYS his boat, and the day he SELLS it.

Its all worthwhile when Im sitting on the deck with a cold beer and a nice breeze, with topless girls frolicking about. ;)

Re: OUCH already $1000

I know we're not supposed to moan about running costs but I've just filled the tank at the fuel pier and paid out €225 for it. That's a shade under $300. At €1.61 per litre that converts out to $8 per US gallon.

There must be madness somewhere in my family.
