My Uncle has a 1977 70hp Evinrude that seriously shocked him through the control box. He said he changed the old power pack because it wouldn't kill the motor, ever since when it rains or if he touches the water he gets shocked through the control box, that almost knocked him off his feet. Is this a grounding issue or what else to look for. He raises crab traps so he's almost always wet. Help!!!

Has to be a bad ground somewhere. Well, really not, seems he's a pretty good ground.

You may find the ground wires have a lot of corrosion on the contacts, so get a wire brush and scrub off those. I noticed on my 9.9 there's also a wire under the motor housing, so check for any extra wires dangling around like mine was.

When he replaced the powerpack, did he ground the wire coming off the pack? There are several wires exiting the pack. One group goes to the stator, one group to the coils and a single wire to ground. Make sure it's going to a good, clean spot - usually under one of the mounting bolts with a star washer to "bite" into it a bit...

- Scott

Will do. We'll check it our this weekend. No grounds anywhere in or near the control box.
He apparently was a pretty solid ground. LOL
Thanks for the replys!
