I have a 17' Ouchita Spirit bass boat and I'm trying to buy tires for it's trailer. I can't take the boat to get weighed because both tires have knots in the sidewall and I'm afraid they will fail on the road. The tires look too small for the boat/trailer anyway. I just want to make sure I'm getting tires with a high enough load rating...but I can't find any information on this boat anywhere. It is a 1978, and seems to be very heavy for it's size.

Thanks,
Hunter

have the rig, weighed at a public scale, that is what it is going to have to support.

What size tire are you now using? How many lug bolts?

Thanks for the replies guys!

TD - I would love to tow it down to the landfill and have it weighed, but like I said, I'm afraid to pull it down the road because the tires have knots (bulges) in them and they are a little dry rotted too. I was hoping somebody might know an approximate weight so I could get the right tires without having to tow it anywhere.

Jeff, I am currently using 155/80/R13 tires with a 4 bolt wheel. The load rating is 950 lbs per tire, and I know the rig exceeds 2000 lbs easily. The reason I'm suspicious is that the tongue weight is more than I can lift by myself, I'd guess 300 to 400 lbs, but it is well balanced. From what I can tell the hull is 3/4" wood sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass...which would be very heavy. I hope the wood isn't wet, because that will add some serious weight as well.

Again, thank you both for the help. I might just end up putting some new 5 bolt hubs on with some 15" wheels that will hold a wider tire. Or, for about the same price I could probably find a used tandem axle trailer, but I like how the current trailer fits my garage. It has about 4 inches to spare at each end.hehe

Many thanks,
Hunter
