Thanks Bob. Definitely registering to vote. The same way as me, of course. Wouldn't have married her if she didn't think like me. lol

Thanks for the mentor acknowledgement, ben2go. My grandparents all migrated from Germany and Austria. I think immigration was a lot different back then.

Welcome Citizen! My Grandmother immigrated from Vienna, Austria about a hundred years ago. One thing that has changed (among many, I'm sure) is the requirement to speak English. To be honest I could barely understand her but she did speak English which I don't think is required today.

Now show me your papers. I'm sure she would be happy to show her hard earned proof. And you helped, Capt. Happy Independence Day!

Thanks GA. Yep, her papers are in the second picture I posted.

Do they have a practice, sample test somewhere online? I graduated from college with honors and have a post BA degree, but bet I'd fail that test, lol.

can you pass, lol

Hey ngt, the following is a link to the set of 100 questions. However, this page has the answers with each question, so if you wanted to how you would do, have some one ask you the questions or search the USCIS site further. I think they do have an online tester.

The link you provided does seem to be based upon the USCIS questions, although some are worded in a different way.

Have fun.

SWEET! Just in time for 4th of July too!

This is the best story I've read in a long time. Congrats to both of you.
YES, CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU.

Great story for the 4th of july. Hopefully this thread will keep going through next week. I very much know what this means, my grandfather was a immigrant from Scotland, if he wasn't I probably wouldn't be posting this.

Yes CKB, a HUGE accomplishment and bigger CONGRATS to your wife and yourself for all the hard work put in to get to become a LEGAL citizen. I know I have a hard enough time with the question they asked on who's smarter than a 5th grader

and as said earlier just in time for the 4th.......

Just a question which I am sure is a stupid one. Didn't she become a citizen when she married you??

Congrats anyway. It really warms my heart when you see the appreciation of becoming a citizen of this country and how much it means. It reminds me how much many born here take it and the country for granted.

Most of you probably don?t realize how difficult this process can be to become a U.S. citizen. But after many years and tens of thousands of dollars, Mrs. Kick Back was sworn in as a U.S Citizen today!!!!!!!!!!!

MrsKickBackUsCitizen.jpg

We?ve been working on this a long time, and it has been her dream to be a U.S. citizen since she came here from South Africa 12 years ago. For the last six months, we have been going over and over the USCIS Citizenship Test questions, three to four times a day. It?s a set of 100 questions from which they will ask 10 in the interview. We even bought the flash cards the USCIS provides. Despite knowing the answers perfectly, she was still gut-wrenchingly nervous.

As an interesting side note, over the last several months, we have been using the flashcards to quiz our American citizen friends. Unfortunately, I now have the opinion that most Americans would fail the citizenship test.

Anyway, back to the celebrating! Now it?s on me to throw Mrs. Kick Back a huge Citizenship party.

Sea ya?

Thats awesome!!! I remember going w/ my mom when I was like 5, watching her get sworn in (from Germany) was really cool.
Congrats!
