Re: Our own 'Thanks for help' thread

I'd like to thank the Academy, and all of the fine people here who maintain, monitor and contribute to these forums. I've learned a TON. I am new to boating and without the knowledge gained here, I'd be lost.

Thanks.

I'll take a moment and give due thanks to the folks that have come through with some much needed help. Laddies, Clams, Jkopec, Rodbolt, and even you Don S. (although I am looking forward to my Alaska Trip)

Without this forum, I would have a life back! :D :D

Seriously, I enjoy all the jousting in DC and am especially grateful, to many, for all the help and support, not only in my resto project but all other issues I bring forth.

In the case of my resto project, I even question whether I would have tackled it had it not been for this forum.

Re: Our own 'Thanks for help' thread

Well, I'm not sure whether to thank or damn you guys!! Without the forum, I'd just have my fishing boat with the wearing out carpet, and probably be happy to leave well enough alone. With the forum, I've been replacing all carpeted panels one by one, thinking constantly about other improvements to the fishing boat, and then went out and bought an '86 Searay with bad floors LOOKING FORWARD TO SPENDING MY PRECIOUS LITTLE LEISURE TIME RENOVATING THE THING THIS WINTER!

On the balance, I'll have to give a sincere thanks to all for the inspiration and determination it takes to stick with their projects and with this board. The pictorials of your projects keep me going!

Re: Our own 'Thanks for help' thread

I purchased my first boat about 4 mouths ago it’s a 1985 Ray Craft bass boat I got it for 300 bucks. It looked like sh*t and didn’t run, the gel-coat was badly oxidized, and the motor was locked up. Before I purchased it I did a lot of research mostly in Iboats forums just to see what I would be getting in to. I’m pretty mechanically inclined so I decided to go for it but all I knew about bouts was that they float. After buying a manual, reading the forums A LOT, and asking a lot of questions my boat Runs and Looks Good :D hell I know more about boats then all my friends do and they been around them all their lives. THANKS TO All

Special Thanks To:
Rodbolt answered most my mechanical questions.
Mark42 your Restoring Gloss to Old Gel Coat article is the sh*t (that means kick ***, better than good)

All you guys are the best! Thanks to all for putting up with my numerous posts about various details and every little change I made! Especially thanks to Realgun for putting up with kidding of his methods (Remember the Marine Rocks?) and the encouragement he and so many other gave.

Plus the hours of entertainment value from the Crimp vs Solder, Epoxy sticks to everything, and poly sticks to nothing posts.

Without this site I would have been working blind.

I did notice a few projects that popped up along the way quietly disapeared. Too bad. Wonder what happened to those guys. The Redfish (?) boat with big fins comes to mind.

Re: Our own 'Thanks for help' thread

I have to echo f_inscreenname - I've learned more here about boats (and other things) in 5 months than I learned in the previous ten years.

Besides that, pretty much everyone is rather tolerant of my occasional forays into just plain silly BS :) , for which I also have to say thank-you!

So many people with boating exep. It's just the best people in the world with tons of knowledge that they are willing to share. Without Iboats it would be a dark day on the water for lots of boaters. My thanks to all :)

Re: Our own 'Thanks for help' thread

I'd like to share my thanks for everyone on this forum that has helped me out with all of my questions. Being a newbie to boating this site has been quite an education. Can't find a lot of these answers without paying for them elsewhere! Much thanks guys! GREAT SITE!!!
