Hi It's me again. 1981 Checkmate 898 V-8 305 I/O The numbers on the outdrive are R - 5492375 / 1.50 R it does not say Alpa 1 it say's 898 mercrusier. I need to change the lower shift cable and all the reading i have been doing points out to remove the drive from the gimble ring houseing to get to the shift cable it say's To remove the 4 bolts holding the drive unit on. I have 6 bolts that hold the drive unit to the gimble houseing. Am i looking at the right bolts to remove? Also what does the pivot thingey do thats on the shift plate? i had to take it apart last night becouse it was leaking trim fluid out underneath the povit arm ( NEW O-RING ) renstalled the part on the shift plate. I did not do any adjusting to this or any other pieces of the puzzle. We did notice that when you shift F to R back and forth the interrupter arm does not center itself back up on the Y bracket. So i am thinking it is the shift cable right?. Or can this be all in the adjustment on the shift plate. Any help?
