Out of the water boating

Hello Fellas,

I know someone out there has a good idea for this.

I want to run my outboard in my driveway to check my engine. Those "muffs" dont seem to work for me. I install them, turn on the water, and it takes forever for my engine to get enough water to pee out of the telltale. When the boat is in the water I get water out of the pee hole immediately.

I need a container big enough to totally submerse my lower unit and get the water flow going as soon as the engine is fired up. Garbage cans are not big enough. Has anyone else found something that works that I can find lying around somewhere?

Large plastic trash can from Lowes, Wal Mart, or anywhere. Fill with water, start engine, keep hose running in trash can as need to keep level up. Motor muffs should work though. Might want to get another set. They're pretty cheap.

If this don't work . . .

I dunno. . . , a Stock Tank ?

. . . a Hot Tub ? . . . . . . always worked for my lower unit.

I don't have a barrel, don't live on a farm, too poor for a hot tub, so if I ever needed to I'd use a pool some guy has on the other side of the block.

I find a rubbermaid storage tote works pretty well if you put it on top of some 4 by 4's. I also stick a running garden hose in it to top up the water that splashes out.

What type of motor do you have? Some are not designed to work on muffs. I've also found that on motors that muffs do work on they don't always fit right and more water goes out the side than in the motor. I use one of those woodworking squeeze clamps (irwin) and put a little pressure on the muffs.

My friend has a stock tank that he uses. I use a garbage can on my 200hp, and it works quite well.

I would suggest you make a clamp or use a bungee cord to squeeze the rubber tight to the motor so more water gets into the water pick-up.
