I just traded my old turbo buick motor/trans for a freshly rebuilt and decked out 5.7l.
The guy i got it from listed everything over the phone to me but i dont have a memory at all. I tried to get the specs from him but a couple weeks after the trade he is having traders remorse, and is not giving much info up.
Any way here is what i know, fresh rebuild bored .030 over, NON roller motor. New internals, pro top line heads im guessing 2.02 and 1.6 valves, full roller rockers, ratio unknown. Dual plane Air gap intake, HEI billet distributor, and a holley carb (?). He has had it running in his car for maybe a month.
I know i need to change the gaskets and the core plugs, what else do i need to change for this to work in my 74 slick craft 23'. It has a non original 250 merc 5.7 (somebody swapped in at some point) that has water in the oil pan.
I know the cam probably wont work, and since i dont know the specs i want to change it. What cam should i be looking for? What information do i need to look at when making this decision? I plan on using this boat to pull skiers, and tubers primarily. I really dont want to go any faster than 50mph. I think thats plenty fast, especially for the shallow lakes down here.
I know props play a big role in engine performance and boat speed, what kind of pitch and blade count should i be looking for?
I already pulled the manifolds off and took them down to a local marina to be checked out and to see if i could get gaskets for them.
I dont know the weight of the boat yet, once i fix the lights on the trailer ill haul it down to the shop for engine removal and weigh it on the way. May not be for a few weeks as im backed up at the shop at the moment.
Thank you,
Rob
