I Have a 1981 115 Evinrude i'm rebuilding as posted earlier the block is cracked so i'm trying to find another one since everybody says it cant be welded (wont hold)...

one local guy has a bare block for $300...he said it will need honing (he can do it for $30 a hole) 300+120 = $420 total :eek:

i had another local guy e-mail me with a johnson 100 hp block ?? would my internals fit into this block crank, rods, pistons ?? i doubt the pistons will work but i had to ask dont know the year he is supposed to e-mail me back the year and price...How much is a bare 115 block worth anyhow ?? also one last question is there any differences between Johnson and Evinrude block wise ?? thanks Jason

Re: outboard block questions

If it's of a similar vintage, that 100 and 115 differ only by a few external items. It'll bolt right up and work fine.

Re: outboard block questions

Different blocks will have different porting, but that's easy to spot. The 1979 and newer blocks will work, but the 1978 or earlier will not. The block should be set up for the bubbleback exhaust rather than the flatback.

Re: outboard block questions

Ah! Been there - had that happen.

We've fixed those before and been OK but the trick is to get it clean. If any of the caron is in the aluminum it's really hard to weld it correctly and and up straight too. Sometimes even glass beading doesn't get it clean enough.
