Re: Boatt
Re: Boatt
it is a chris craft lancer 18 ft color was red,a red hood was in back of boat like you described .2 ft in is another transom . would a smaller motor now help
The motor was originally mounted on a transom that was 2 ft instep towards the bow. If you tear out what has been added and put it back the way it was, the motor you have now may work because the height required further forward will be less. I will try and find out what shaft length these boats came with. I will also try and find someone that has the boat in original condition and see if we can get some pics of the set-up. This will take some time, so if your interested, let me know.
If you plan on keeping the boat with the current set -up, I would sell the motor you have and buy a longer shaft motor.Or like said before, find a long shaft for that motor and replace the short shaft that on it.
Thenget your transom built up to the height that it needs to be to accept the longer shaft motor. I would completely rip out the built up floor area in the back and remove the splash well. the splash well could be a good idea after you get the transom built correctly to the proper height for the longer shaft motor.
Unlike some of the nay sayers here, I think you have a very nice hull there to work with. In its day, Chris Craft made a very strong and well made hull. These hulls are still popular to this day and there is a pretty good following. Chris Craft was the very first production boat. They supplied our armed forces in early wars with boats. There is quite a history there. I would google, 1971 Chris Craft Lancer and start researching for people with the same boat on other classic forums for Lancers. Thats where I got all the info so far. But this is your boat, google is your freind! I am a little bias because I am a Chris Craft owner.
