Need help! Installing a bracket on a full transom Aquasport. How far above the bottom of keel should the bracket be? I was told simply measuring up 25" (length of motor) is not correct when using a 30" setback bracket. Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is not correct..

The proper mounting height of the bracket is determined by the position of the engine anti-ventilation plate in relationship to the bottom of the hull...

Considering that water rises 1 inch for every 12 inches the engine is moved aft of the transom, a bracket with a 30 inch setback would require mounting the engine so the anti-ventilation plate is 2-1/2 inches above the keel.

Re: outboard bracket

I have just a few questions, before mounting bracket.
First the anti-ventilation plate is the lowest fin on the lower unit right?

Second is the top bolt hole on the motor always the same distance from this anti-ventilation plate so that I can use this for my measurements?

I was told to go up 3 1/2" for 30" setback, any reason for extra hiegth or just wrong?

Re: outboard bracket

Look at the other posting on bracket height. My engine (225 Suzuki) is mounted 5.5" higher than the keel line on the hull and I could have gone higher with the 4-blade prop on but my bracket was mounted just a little bit to low (about 2") so I am forced to use just the top mounting hole on my engine.

Thom

What brand bracket is it? I have a Stainless Marine bracket and can post the instructions if you'd like.

Re: outboard bracket

Mine is a Gil bracket. I will be heading down to the boat next week, so if it will do you any good I can measure whatever distance you like. I'd immagine you would like the height difference between the keel-line and the bottom bolt hole on the bracket, but if you need something else just say what it is.
