I traded for a 1961 15 ft glasspar with a 1976 35 hp evinrude the prop is chipped on all the blades really bad shape. I found water in the lower unit, installed new o ring on the bushing, replaced the retainer bolts (they would'nt tighten down) took it to the water and putted around alittle did'nt run at WOT much with the bad prop. But I did try a open her up alittle and when the rpm's went up the motor bucked against the transom like it been bucked by horse. got back and just to be safe pulled the lower unit again and checked the gears ,dog and everything looked really good . is the prop reaching a point when spinning that it gives way and the motor is dropping against the transom ? thanks a ton, John

grab the prop and yank back and forth, push and pull front to back amd see if theres any play in the bracket.
They repair props like that, most marine shops will take care of it for around $75 or less.

The transom might be shot too, 50 yrs is a very long time for plywood in a boat.

Re: outboard bucking the transom

it sounds like there is a miss in the engine. mine was doing that when i got it and i found that the flywheel magnets had become loose causing it not to fire on 3 cylinders intermittently. there were also wires out of order on the terminal block. "just because you bought it that way, doesn't mean it is supposed to be that way." that is one of my favorite qutes i have seen on here. good luck
