outboard change

hi guy's, i have a 1996 24' pontoon boat in nice shape. it has a 1996 40 hp mercury that runs great on it. but i need more power. i would like to put a 2003 90 hp mercury on it. are the controls the same & what changes would i need.

What Max HP is your 'toon rated for, Richard?

A 24 footer probably doesn't have a max hp rating. Certainly above 90. Moving to Mercury forum.

I would buy another boat with a bigger engine on it, cheaper in the long run ?
