Hey guys so I bought a 2000 50hp johnson with out controls.

I recently bought a bombardier side mount control with the cables but no wiring. The guy I bought it from said it was on a 94 what harness do I need to make it work?

It has tilt trim on engine and controller box. both engine and control unit have the same style plugs but the are both like the same female style, plus they obviously dont reach. can someone point me in the right direction as I am lost

I can get pics of the plugs if it makes it easier
thanks again
Randy

Re: outboard control help

You do have the main harness with the big red plug? I am assuming that you have the remote that has the ignition switch.
If you are referring to the tilt/trim harness then you have a tail with a connector coming out of the bottom of the handle. This connector is usually a three pin. The motor will have a round connector. You will need the harness that goes from the remote to the motor.

outboard plugs are hard to see but there are a few that are female and some that are male and almost seem like they would connect to each other

Re: outboard control help

the 2 pin connector is the alarm system for LOW OIL in the oil tank

You have a 1996 and later style control box that uses the MWS wiring harness for the boat from the engine to the control box. See a dealer as the wiring harnesses are available in different lengths. You will also need either the 2" System Check gauge with the 4 warning lights or a SystemCheck tachometer with the lights. Get a service manual or enlist the services of a trained teach to check the installation and to hook up, bleed, and test the oil injection system if you have one on the motor.

You will also need either the 2" System Check gauge with the 4 warning lights or a SystemCheck tachometer with the lights.

The warning lights indicate any engine problems such as OVERHEAT or NO OIL etc. The gauge also need the appropriate warning buzzer to tell you to look at the gauge. A dealer can help you out easily and quickly. You could also buy the factory service manual which is a good reference to have.

Re: outboard control help

As SH5 suggested, see a dealer ... they can answer your quesrtions and provide the harness you need. Make sure to measure from the controller to ther motor along ther path the wire will take before you see the dealer and bring the controller with you.
