Hi all,

I recently went and talked to a local outboard mechanic who has a great reputation in this area. We were talking about outboards (imagine that  ) and he suggested that I try to get something from 1982 to present. The reason, he stated, was because in '82 there were some very postive changes made in the Electronics of most outboards (we were mainly talking about Evin/John & Mercurys).

I was just wanting to get your opinion on what he said and was wondering if perhaps someone could elaborate a bit more.

Thanks,

Shane

Hmmm.

I wonder what great advances he was talking about. OMC engines started to offer electronic ignition in the late 60s.

Were the ignition systems changed or altered in any way?

As I've thought about this more, I believe he was talking about them being more reliable not necessarily different. Are there any differences at all between a mid-'70s Evinrude (say 70HP) and a mid-'80s Evinrude??

Sorry to be so vague

Shane
