Re: OUtboard Engine Stand

search this forum for "skanky beast"...JasonJ's project. The first post of his shows a stand he has his big Merc in-line six sitting on. I used that as inspiration to make my own after he supplied some measurements. Came out great and only cost about $30, including the caster wheels. It now hold three of my fav antique outboards out in the shop.

Re: OUtboard Engine Stand

I'm currently building one. I'm using 2x10 for the false transom, on an old wieght bench, which is predominently 2' square steel.
I am not finished with it. I need some 4" caraige boltz to complete it, and that will have to wait.

Here's a pic of mine, its holding a 125 horse Merc inline six. Its 2x4s screwed together with 1/2 inch ply for reinforcement, and 2x4s for the false transom, and castors so it will roll.

John,

Yep, it's all 2 X 4's, held together with 3" deck screws. It also sits on casters so I can roll it around.

The engine sitting on it weighs about 325 pounds with all the controls. I also had the battery mounted between the lower supports so that I could run it on the stand.

I made the side supports wide enough so that I could get a cut down (plastic) 55 gal. drum in between to fill up and run the engine.

All for less than $20.00, including casters.

http://mypeoplepc.com/members/djohns19/djohns19/

Re: OUtboard Engine Stand

anyone know where to get castors with brakes built in? I have a few pull start engines as well and do love the idea of having a base large enough to put a trash can o water on it ... would hate to have that water sloshing around from the stand lunging forward with every pull!

I love how a thread from 2003 can still come back to life. That is why this forum is great, all the good info on it, and people can always find what they are looking for.

Re: OUtboard Engine Stand

I just have to tell you these plans worked great. The actual build. I have access to a large format printer and made 11 x 17 prints to work from. Cost $30 for wood and hardware, had 5" casters in a drawer from another project, so I saved a few bucks. Total build time... 4hrs.

Still have to get the motor onto it, hopefully in a few days. It's a 1973 Evinrude 65hp, I need to tear down for a bad middle cylinder. I also have a 1960 Gale Sovereign 60hp that will see this stand as well. Both these motors are in the 250lb range and I see no reason this won't work!

I'll post a couple pictures in a day or two, it's a little dark right now.

God Speed and have a great boating season.

Scott
