I'm looking at buying a new boat. Possibly a Keywest bay boat so I can fish the salt and shallow fresh waters near my home.
I am not sure what engine would be the best for my boat. I've heard alot about the four stroke engines and the direct injection motors. Which is better?
So my question really is direct injection vs oil injection or four stroke engine?
Any thoughs?

Re: Outboard engines

Rodhog...there are hundreds of hours of discussion on this subject here, use the search feature(4stroke vs 2 stroke) to help. If you don't have any pre-concieved ideas on what you want I would check with all the dealers you can find and find the one that will take the best care of your needs after the sale. Spend some time at the docks talking to folks who own the type of boats you want and make the decision based on real life experiences in your region. I, and most on this board will be biased based on what we own at present. You can't go wrong with about any of the modern products out there as they are all very good, but a good dealer with a good dealer service department will be your best bet. Don't just listen to the best salespitch but get out and find the folks that deal with them. You have to pay a little more to deal with the right people but as long as they sell you the right gear and take care of you afterwards, it will be well worth it...just some Thoughts

My 0.02, If the boat can handle the weight and you can handle the price, I'd get the four stroke. Quiet, no two stroke oil, less carbon build up, no smoke. That's my choice.

Personally I prefer 2 stroke for outboard applications...but their days are numbered, Mercury has discontinued all except 25 Hp or less except for Optimax line. I would choose a four cylcle that has a weight factor that is close to a two cycle and most important, been in production for 3 model years or more.
