Outboard Gear Grease or Oil? where to find the grease? 1950s Spiegel Brooklure 500

I have a 1950s Spiegel Brooklure 500 model 230-51-5s outboard motor. The name plate says to ?keep gear housing filled with outboard grease? NOT oil. I?ve read on the internet that older outboards use grease not oil.

So what type of grease do I use? And is anyone familiar with this model and can I use gear oil or should I follow the label and use grease. [I read the oil will not work because the unit designed for grease don?t have seals??]

Also, what is the procedure to add this grease.

Go to a NAPA Auto Parts Store and buy a tube of "Lubriplate 105 Motor Assembly Grease". There is a large plug on one side of the gearcase and a small screw/plug on the opposite side. Squeeze the grease in the big one till it comes out the little one. A lot of people suggest John Deere Cornhead Grease, but the 105 comes in a handy squeeze tube.

EDIT: If the kid at the counter gives you a blank stare, tell him it is NAPA part number 765-2651

EDIT EDIT: Just so you know, your Brooklure is a Gale Model 5S10, as opposed to a 5D10 which has a different lower unit. 5S10 takes grease, 5D10 takes Hypoid oil.

One more question, where can I get an impeller?

I have the motor running strong but I want to replace the impeller since it could be really old.
