First let me start by saying we are new to boating and unfortunately not very mechanically enclined. We have a brand new Mercury 4 stroke outboard motor, that we bought for our dingy. First time it ran perfectly fine. Today, went to put the motor back on our dingy and there was oil leaking out the little exhaust tubes, not sure why. Put the motor on the dingy and the pull cord wouldn't come out. After giving a good tug, the pull cord freed but now the motor won't start at all. Confirmed that there is fuel going to the carburetor. The motor was stored lying on its side, which I suspect was not the right thing to do. I have a feeling there are a few things we've done wrong and am hoping we can get some insight or a push in the right direction as to what we should do.

Chances are you stored it on the wrong side (there are little pads on the side...they should be facing down) and engine oil leaked into the carburetor/combustion chambers.

Because it's still under warranty, take it to the Dealer and have him fix it and give you a lesson on storing it.

Dealers should give folks a manual.----Then folks should read it.------A good dealer would now fix that mistake at minimal cost to you.
