Outboard Manufacturer

Hi Forum,
I realize that this question is very vague, but I will give it a shot. I came into possession of a small(single cylinder, approx. 3 hp?) outboard motor, that is fairly new and complete, except for the engine cover. It is seized up, but looks as though it may just be from sitting. My problem is, I have no clue as to the outboards manufacturer. With no cover, obviously no name apparent, and I looked everywhere on the outboard for any type of tag or numbers, to no avail. The motor is completely black original paint, which would make me think Mercury, but I would think that they would have tag or numbers. Any suggestions?

Re: Outboard Manufacturer

most small outboards these days are made by Tohatsu and rebranded. However without a pic it will be a guess, even for a year. for me "fairly new" is anything that is 30 years old or newer. for others "fairly new" is only 2 or 3 years old.
