Re: Outboard Motor Rebuilders Near NJ Reviews

I had East Coast Outboard rebuild my 200 Johnson. When it was returned, the boat was nearly half off the trailer with only the safety chain holding it, the bimini structure was bent up form the excessive bouncing, the oil reservoir that had been taken off as part of the rebuild was in the cockpit half full of oil (the rest was all over the cockpit). They also only provided a 2-yr warranty when the agreement was for a 6-yr limited. I was told by the owner they would mail one to me. They were going to supply a trigger switch that was needed as a trade in on a 115 HP I sent back with them. They confirmed this was true after going over the motor. They made arrangements 3 times to get it to me, and three times said they had gotten the wrong part. This started in April, after the boat was returned, they would not answer my calls, unless I used a new phone number to call from. I lost the whole season to broken promises on parts and have no warranty at this point. I turned this over to the Better Business Bureau and just received a letter from them indicating East Coast Outboard would not contact them after 30 days of trying.

Try contacting Blackburn (not Blackbird) Marine Distributors in Friedens, NJ 814-267-3075 or
Mar-Fab in Sparta, TN 800-476-1554 or
Outboard Recyclers in Semmes, AL 251-645-2050 or
Flagship Remanufacturing in Punta Gorda, FL 800-282-2840

This come from a bad memory.... when the motor is shipped make sure you insure it for full value and when it is shipped back to you insist on full value insurance again. I had a V-6 powerhead dropped by UPS and it was not insured for the full amount. Destroyed the head!

Just some advice.

Excellent point Bob. In fact I would not ship a ph by UPS. Had too many issues too many times. Any of the folks I listed can arrange for shipping for you. They get pretty good rates. If it were mine I'd box it real well and let them schedule the pick up.

.scotts marine here backing up what happened to you.took 89 115 for freshen powerhead got back a motor with 1 cyclinder punched out and three old pistons boat was never water tested, pump never installed, carbs never rebuilt, fuel lines never replaced as i asked for.couldn't produce old parts as i asked for in the beginning.lied all the way through and boat was trashed when i got it back.pictures in the website are not eastcoast outboard, it is a 2 car garage on an old farm property.this is a ponzi scheme pure and simple.

I know this is an old thread but it bears repeating - Mar-Fab, OBR or Flagship. Period.
