Outboard motor stand

Hello I-boaters. I have been reading through the threads and have been enjoying what I am reading. It has motivated me to start on my project. It is a 1987 Ebko/Larson Cimmaron bowrider with an 88hp Johnson outboard that is in need of new stringers and floor. In order to do what I want to do I am going to remove the motor but have no stand for it. I read through the outboard stand sticky and really like the idea. I wanted to make this stand but since I am also an automotive enthusiest I have several engine stands at my disposal so I though I would use one of those. I had the idea to make a bracket that works with my 750lb engine stand. So attached are some pics of the progress of my stand. I started with some 1" square stock after measuring the the mounting size I will need.
The first pic is of my boat. The second pic is of the start cutting the 1" stock on the chop saw. Pic three is the 4 sides welded together. Pic four is the supports I welded up for the mounting plate. And Pic five is of the mounting plate tacked on. I hope you all like it..

After I welded on the plate (pic 1) and ran a couple stiches on the back of the plate (pic 2), I found 1/8" walled tubing that would fit well inside the stand and welded it on. I wanted to make sure that the tension on the pipe would not rip it off so I ran two more beads around the base (pic 3). I welded up more supports to the frame which I have not taken pisc of yet but I will upload them ASAP.

Sorry all for not keeping up on this. had to work nights this week and am pulling a double today. I will post the finishing of the stand this weekend.

I made a flat plate for a motor stand and welded it to a pipe that fit into the stand. It works but a good old engine stand design takes less space and the prop will not hit the lower bar of the engine stand.

A V-4 weighs in right at about 300 lbs.

Yeah I know what you mean. I figured that a simple stand would work better but I thought I would try my hand at this since I like to weld and goof off. I thought that the prop might hit the bottom bar so I went ahead and adjusted the height of the pipe to compensate. instead of welding the pipe to the middle of the mount I moved it towards the bottom. here is what I did next. I purchased a 2'x2' 3/4 ply from the depot and measured 1/2" around the border to outline where I would drill the self tapping screws. I then countersunk the hole since the screws have a shoulder on them. then just went to town putting in screws. I dont have pics up yet of the completed stand but I will get them up sometime early next week since I am going camping this weekend.

Ok so I finished with the stand but I decided to go camping this weekend so I didnt get around to removing the motor from the boat and mounting it up. I will try and get that done this week but might take me a bit since I have to help get a racecar ready to go for a race.
