Re: outboard motor

Got the wrong hood on it? Original went missing and the 90 HP fit fine. You just gained 50 HP.

Re: outboard motor

...having trouble replying to this thread! but could it be a 90hp powerhead and cowl, sitting on a 140 hp leg?

Re: outboard motor

See if you have a "bubble back" exhaust cover on it. If you do, it's a 140.

Re: outboard motor

Is there a round silver disk on the power head? It may have the serial number on it. If the serial number on the powerhead matches the one on the transom bracket, and the transom bracket says it's a 140, then it's probably a 140. If the transom bracket color doesn't exactly match the rest of the midsection then the bracket may have been switched. Or somehow both the head and cowl found a new home on a 140. A lot can happen in 32 years.....

OK, the serial number on the power head does not match what is on the leg. If the motor otherwise looks like all of the parts match, then somebody switched the ID plates on you. Sorry, but you may have a stolen motor. Or it is a frankenmotor that somebody pieced together.
Pictures would help to ID whether or not it is really a 90 hp.

Re: outboard motor

Well, according to boobie's statement, it looks like a 140 to me. At least you gained 50 horses, instead of being cheat out of 50 horses. :D

Re: outboard motor

In picture number 2 that big bulge between the two bottom cylinders is the exhaust manifold for a 140. If she has the right carbs and intake I would say you have a 140. The cowl might have been damaged at some point and a PO replaced it with the cowl from a 90.

Re: outboard motor

Not to be insulting, but it's looks like a 140 that's been run hard and put away wet.
