by accident, I was looking for fourstroke outboard oil. The store attendant helped me and gave me four cycle inboard/sterndrive oil. Can I use this oil intead or should I return it for the outboard oil??? The engine is a mercury fourstroke 75 hp. Sorry I posted in the wrong spot. I'm new at this...second time's a charm! : )
Thanks for the advice! : )

If its the correct weight, its just fine, it probably has the new FCW Spec. That engine doesnt know that its on top of the outdrive instead of in front of it. ;)

I suspect your engine calls for a certain spec oil. As long as that's what you have, it doesn't make a rat's patoot if it says ourboard, sterndrive, or inboard/outboard. It's the ratings and weight that matters, not the marketing.

Adding my 2 cents, both are 4 cycle marine engines, not oil burners, operating in a marine environment. Both are designed for continuous WOT running. If the rating is equal to or surpasses that required for the engine I wouldn't hesitate to run it.

Mark
