I am restoring our old ski boat. Part of the project is a fresh coat of paint on the 1978 Johnson 150 outboard. Any recommendations for paint? Will it peel off if I don't use a two part. Can I get by with something out of an aerosol can?

Thanks.

I used Duplicolor I got at Auto zone, good paint and it is pretty durable and it was almost a perfect match to the OMC blue.

Whether it peels or not is up to you, prep is the key, if you remove all grease oil ect then scuff it good it should last for years.

you can also look at the specialty stores online like oldmercs.com had the phantom black paint for my 1974 1500 o/b direct from mercury. You can probably find the original color for yours somewhere if that matters to you.

if you are painting the lower motor cover where the fuel line connects any splashed fuel will eat regular rustoleum and duplicolor and it will bubble up. I know from experience. Use a paint that is resistant to gasoline I use Duplicolor high heat engine enamel. the high heat part doesnt apply but it wont peel off when gas gets on it
