outboard shaft lengths

I have a small inflatable with a 15 inch transom. Can I use an outboard with a longer shaft? What will the difference be and would it damage my boat?

Won't hurt anything, but the prop will be 5 inches deeper, and the boat will be slower due to increased drag. If you're not worried about hitting anything because the prop is lower and are willing to accept a speed decrease, then go ahead.

Masterchief. thanks for the information. Do you know how much speed will be lost?
