I have a small 14 foot 1972 fiberglass tri-hull that I am restoring. Down to the hull now and planning for a new engine. The plaque on the transom states 40 hp max.
I will be using the boat for fishing, and maybe pulling a small inflatable behind for fun on occasion.
There is no steering mechanism, so it I will be purchasing one of the hand steering models.
I need advice on a good size motor that won't break my bank, yet will provide reasonable pleasure for my boat. I don't want to purchase a 25 hp if I am only going to be disappointed, and I don't want to spend 6K or more on a 40 hp if the weight is going to outweigh the benfits. I am pretty set on purchasing a new motor for reliability.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
