outboard steering updateable?

so my sister has this pontoon boat, has a 35 hp johnson, about 1985ish. she had some issues with it, and picked up a 1965 40 hp evenrude that has had little use, and runs well. this engine, the 40hp, was made for a different type of steering than what is on the boat. the boat has the typical big single cable that pushes and pulls. i think the 40hp was made for thinner duel cable / pulley type, but i never saw it installed. is there an aftermarket mount setup for the big cable? there is no place to insert it through like on the newer motor. i know this it tough with out pics, i will try to post some up later.

I tried to search what the part is for you because it's going to be tough for me to describe it but I was unsuccessful.

Anyway, the newer motor has a tube integrated into its mounting bracket that the steering rod connects to (called the tilt tube). The older motor does not have this tube. There is an adapter that you can buy that attaches to the transom that basically replicates the tilt tube functionality and you should be able to connect your existing steering cable to it. However I'll be darned if I can think of what this part is called. I was just lookin at one on a friend's boat last night! Hopefully someone more knowledgable will come along.
