Hello all. First post here.
I bought a 1978 Del Magic 16' Cougar runabout yesterday. It has a 1978 Johnson 115hp outboard.
Typical story. It hasn't been ran in 6 years, and wasn't properly stored. So, I know it needs new fuel lines, spark plugs, fuel filter, new floor, all that stuff.
The problem I have is tilting the outboard up. I'm putting a new battery on it tomorrow, so I don't know if the electronic tilt and trim are working. But today I tried to lift the engine up by hand, and it wouldn't go up very far. It's pretty heavy, but I was able to move it up 5 or 6 inches. It feels like something is blocking it from moving further, but I can't lift it and look at the same time.
The biggest problem is that the engine drags if I try to move it. I kinda need to pull it out of my alley.
Any ideas?
