Looking at an '83 evinrude 50hp to repower my boat. Do not have model number yet. Have a '91 25hp johnson on it now. Boat is rated for a 50 but I would really like a 40hp. Be that as it may, I sit a little low in the back now. I can and will redistribute some weight but can't find how much more the 50hp weighs than the 25. I can probably get this 50 in an even swap for my '76 9.9. Going to look at it Saturday and do a compression check. All the guy could tell me about it so far is that it is a 3 cylinder. I plan on new water pump and carb kits.

Re: Outboard weights

Hi, about 180-190 lbs, depending on whether its long or shrt shaft will make a little difference though.

MCM the difference can't be that much. If the 50 wieghs 180-190 that doesn't really help me because I don't know what my 25 weighs. They are both long shaft but like you said won't make that much difference. Hope spring gets here early, I'm going nuts.

Re: Outboard weights

Sorry misunderstood what you were getting at, a 1980ish 25hp weighs between 105-120 aproximately, depending on features of course. Probably about the same for the '91 I would think.

There is no 1983 3 cylinder 50 horse. They built one in 1968.Be real careful.Your 25 horse is about 120 pounds. If it is a 1983 2 cylinder 50 horse it is dependent on the type, about 190 pounds. If it is a 1968 it is about 250.

Thanks guys, you know the drill. Can only relay what the guy tells me. Once I get a look at the model number I will know what it is. Just concerned about how much more weight I was looking at.

Thanks R.Johnson. I can handle an extra 70 lbs. if that is what it turns out to be. I'm meeting him tomorrow am to do a compression test and get the proper year.
