outboards: saltwater series vs reg.....??

can anyone tell me what the saltwater specific motors have that makes them more resistant to saltwater??

They are built with corrosion resistant materials wherever possable. You will note a price hike on saltwater versions ,as opposed to fresh of the same engine.<br /><br />They were just built to withstand saltwater better is all. A fresh water engine will handle saltwater just fine if it is babied immediately afterwards (but i do mean babied,and i do mean imediately).

When Yamaha first came out with the Saltwater Series, there were some differences like the tilt tube and steerimg pivot. For the last (atleast) 6 years, no difference in materials used between SS and VMax motors.
